Baby massages

Baby massage

The future lies with our children. This has inspired me to follow a course of baby massage in order to pass the techniques on to mothers and fathers. This takes four short lessons of approximately 75 minutes with maximum two babies.

What, why & history of baby massage

In many other countries physical physical cantact is still the basis of attachment. In India families sleep together, in African countries babies are taken everywhere while being carried on their mother’s back and in Indonesia massages are a part of families’ everyday routine. Massage, hugging, touching, making time to pay some attention to each other during a busy day. Actions that seem small and just take a fraction of time and effort are essential to bring balance.

Babymassage is a way to be close to your baby and build trust. Massage can be relaxing to the baby as well as the parents. After birth babies get more information through the skin than they did during their time in the womb. Now they can feel cold, warmth and drought. The transition from a constant environment to an environment filled with new impulses can be very upsetting to a baby. A massage can be very reassuring then.

Healing attention

We live in a society dictated by speed. Busy jobs, too little time, lots of things to do are part of our everyday life. Relaxing has become a necessity for parents as well as children. Because of the excess of images and impulses through TV and computers the agitation with children increases. A child’s brain is not capable of dealing with this agitation because the moments of rest required for that lack in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

Also the filled schedule of parents can make the days very hectic. Children themselves are also very busy with all sorts of activities where competition is very important, such as sports. This adds stress instead of allowing the child to relax. This all happens subconsciously but the body reacts immediately to the increased tension. The child becomes irritable and isn’t capable of concentrating well. It is becoming more and more difficult for to listen to its body and that hinders its maturation.

Children in our western society get a lot of material but, unfortunately, too little attention. Children are touched less and less. This is the responsibility of the parents. We have to teach them love and affection and that is really easy to do. It starts with a hug and a caress. Unlike intelligence, affection is not developed.

Effects of babymassage

Thanks to regular massages the senses of the baby are activated. The rhythm of eating and sleeping. The possible discomfort of intestinal cramps can be dealt with if you have learnt how to do so. Massage also stimulates the circulation of the blood and helps to transport nutrients and oxygen to every bodypart. Cry babies can be reassured and helped to relax. Babies who overstretch also clearly benefit from regular massage. Massage also supports the immunity system which means that small complaints such as coughing and colds can easily be prevented or at least be kept short.

What is also very important is that massage stimulates bonding. It improves the trust between parent and child and it is also a very relaxing ritual for the child as well as the parent. A quiet moment of quality time taking you away from the hustle and bustle of every day!
